What are the Components of a Working Wardrobe?

A Working Wardrobe can be comprised mostly of separates. Separates stretch your wardrobe as you can mix and match and get more use out of them. Also, it's always good to include at least three jacket choices in your wardrobe. Jackets denote power and authority, either worn as a suit or with a dress.

The core or center of your wardrobe is a solid color suit in the style and color that most flatters your coloring, body type and personality. Personally, my favorite color is black. In fact, a phrase I have coined is the black bottom brigade. With three black bottoms, you can create a complete wardrobe to wear daily and no one will ever be the wiser!

We are working with 12 pieces in our example, but it is important to remember that every time you add a garment that coordinates with the others, you quadruple the effect this has on your Working Wardrobe. You will find by planning your wardrobe in advance and sticking to your plan, you will eliminate impulse shopping and you will begin to Shopping with a Mission.

By having a Working Wardrobe, you will save money that can be spent on buying accessories or indulging in fun clothes to wear on your own time! One crucial requirement of a successful Working Wardrobe is good fit. You should be able to dress and be comfortable all day without waistbands cutting into you, pulling, tugging or adjusting your garments to get them more comfortable.

Remember, no one knows your size but you. Who's going to turn your label inside out to look? So be comfortable and look good. If you lose weight, you can always get your clothes altered or buy a new wardrobe. Believe me, if you lose weight, you won't mind!

Remember one of my favorite sayings: Style is not a size. A well-groomed, well-dressed size 22 is every bit as attractive and appealing to look at as the same in a size 2. Don't fall for the size trap. If you're not at your ideal weight, compensate by smart dressing, good grooming and honing your social skills, including your smile and concern for others.

So, using my favorite color, black, here are the basics of my Working Wardrobe, containing one each:

Black Jacket Black Bottom

Another great addition would be a Red Shirtdress.

I use the Ingenuity line of suitings to build a Working Wardrobe since it is washable and in stock, with fast delivery. Most of the clients I work with are not top management but mid-level and they need to eliminate dry-cleaning costs. Our Reflections line is much more versatile and also washable. It takes more time to produce as it is cut to order. It includes free basic alterations and a size range of 0 to 50.

Using the 12 items in my core wardrobe, here are just a few of the outfits I can create:
